An open letter to my parents
Dear mom and dad,
You brought me into this world, and you all are my world. I am a stitching of who you are. At some point, you shared your morals and love with me.
Your guidance lit the little light inside of me. Your love glows through me, and will help me love someone else.
It didn't shine very bright at first, and I often felt like I was walking through the dark, but yours was always bright enough to guide me home.
Now my light is a raging fire and I'm more driven than ever, accompanied by the confidence you instilled in me.
I can see it in your eyes every day that you're proud of who I've become. Knowing this, I still remain unsettled. There is much that has been left unsaid.
I won't always make you happy, but it is the influencing force behind my decisions. I am strong when I am single and evener strong when in a relationship because I know what I deserve and my self worth.
You won't always understand where I am coming from, but it is not worth worrying about. I'm here to teach you new things I discover about the world, just as you had with me. And someday I will find a partner to share my world with, and hopefully have a family that I can reflect all of your teachings upon combined with my new world knowledge.
I'm growing each day, and I've learned to love the process of growing into my own individual because of you.
I'll never forget my roots. Home will always be you, mom and dad. Regardless of where the future takes me, your smiles and hugs will be the warmest embrace I've ever known.
I'm forever indebted to you for all the hardship you made me stick through. Any argument or frustration we've encountered only made me love and respect you more. It has also taught me to love someone through little arguments, because that is only the tip of an iceberg when it comes to the bigger picture of a relationship.
I am now embodied with an impelling sense of responsibility.
It's time to pass me the torch, so I can be that light for you.
